Pick a character* I've written and I will give and explain the top five** ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

* Try to make it someone I've written either often (including characters I RP'ed) or recently in order for me to answer.
** May not actually be five.
I'm sure you all know who I want you to ask about, but I'll try to drag some words out of my brain no matter who you pick. XD

→ why you play(ed) this character; → your favorite moment in canon for this character; → your favorite piece of headcanon for this character; → something about this character that makes you laugh; → something about this character that makes you teary-eyed; and/or → what you'd miss most (or, if the character is retired/no longer active, what you do miss most) about playing this character.

I will happily answer this survey about any pup of mine, past or present, provided I remember the answers, but I'm not going to list them all because hahahahaha. To jog your memory: [ profile] binary_heat/[community profile] binary_heat.

because i'm lazy, a handy textarea:

...and I just have to say, who the fuck asks some of this shit?

Like. Just.

Give me a link to (or name or adequately describe) one of my fics and I’ll give you a detail that didn’t make it into the fic - it could be background canon, deleted material (if I still have it), the music that helped me set the mood or a look into the future - or it could be a question about inspiration, the writing process, research, etc.

This meme is good for anything from finished pieces to epic WIPs to commentfic to RP threads. If I wrote it, ask me about it.

From [personal profile] ashen_key:
I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do work.

So, if you want, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about XYZ, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.
If you are looking for things I wrote so you can ask questions about them, you might wanna hit up [ profile] peahen or my WIP post.

It's that five questions thing again. Shout the name of a fruit at me—seriously: Leave a comment saying "ORANGES" (or any other fruit of your choice)—I'll ask you five questions, you post your answers, other people shout fruits at you, the cycle continues.

Via [ profile] cazrolime. Now with more gender-neutral pronouns, because the way the quiz switched from "he" to "she" to "they" irked me.

If you woke up tomorrow and you were the Doctor, what would you wear?

All men's clothes. Big stompy boots (short for warm weather, tall for cold), comfy jeans, brightly coloured T-shirts with nonsensical slogans, an assortment of optional trenchcoats, and a hat with floppy bunny ears. (I can forgo the hat on the rare occasion when I need people to take me seriously.)

Mismatched socks go without saying, because I already do that every time I wear socks in colours other than white.

Oh, and I would start braiding my hair, 'cause maybe if I was the Doctor I'd be less lazy about my appearance.

List sixteen random things about yourself, then tag sixteen people to do the same.

I'll tag anyone who wants to be; I'm bad at picking people to memetag.

You know the drill, darlings. Comment for five questions, post answering the questions, rinse and repeat.

Round one, from [ profile] nextian: OCs, Kongregate, Ill Doctrine, Edward Norton, and a fire-breathing penis. )

And round two, from [ profile] sotto_voice: Clothes, Muppets, music, books, and Downside. )

Well, that took a while to post.

1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

1-What's your dream job? Professional fantasy or sci-fi writer who makes it big enough to support myself.
2-If you could spend the day with any three people, who would it be? Oof, make my life difficult, why don't you. Iiiii would say [ profile] cazrolime, [ profile] bending_sickle, and [ profile] adiva_calandia, because they are all awesome people whom I love to bits and who I don't get to see often enough (or at all, in Adiva's case) because none of them have the sense to live in Canada like a sane person. ♥
3-Is there a book that can make you smile no matter what, what is it and why? I think it's pretty safe to say that no book can make me smile no matter what, but one that'll have a good shot at it in most situations is The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold, because Miles Vorkosigan is ten pounds of AWESOME in a five-pound bag.
4-Mountains or ocean? Uh. Mountains, because you can ski on them, and skiing is fun (even though I suck at it).
5-You're offered a choice between a chunk of cash or a trip around the world, which would you pick? Depends! If I get to choose all the trip's destinations, then I'd use it to visit all my awesome LJ friends. Otherwise, if it's just See Lots Of Foreign Places Where You Know No One, I'd take the cash. Cash is useful. Tourism is not.
lienne: A fountain pen nib, lying on paper. (Default)
Yeah, that one.

Turns out I have another question.

How do you create such amazingly fleshed out OCs and new worlds for them?

...*blush* Honestly? I just sit and think way too much for my own good. It's all a matter of asking the next question. So I have a character - fine. What's their name? What are their parents' names? What's their favourite flavour of ice cream? Are they right- or left-handed? What do they do for a living? How good are they at it?

Same with worlds, only on a larger scale. What are all the places called? What's the geography like? If there's a system of magic or something like magic, how does it work? Why does it work? What kinds of societal effects does it have? I love playing around with worlds where something is fundamentally different about society - the lack of a cultural taboo against violence towards strangers Downside, for example, or the fact that women and men have longstanding equality on Skifallander (this one is really difficult to do effectively, because I can't let even the smallest reference to a power imbalance of the genders slip past).

My last trick is making things up as I go along. :D I rely on the questions other people ask me or the things that come up in RP to determine what I should make up next.
